OOH SERVICES

Residential Habilitation provides people with a home of their own.  It offers a comprehensive support service which includes protecting the health and welfare of participants by acquiring and maintaining skills necessary to live to their highest potential. Our Own Home believes that people should live in a home of their choice and be a participating member of their community. Skills include resource management, self-care, communication, mobility, socialization and motor skills.

Home and Community Habilitation is designed to support participants in accessing and using community resources including transportation and activities of community life, developing and maintaining financial responsibility, and participating in community groups including volunteering. Habilitation also supports an individual in participating in visits with friends and family, advisory boards, exercising civic responsibilities, and ensuring overall health and safety. Our Own Home believes that the match between team members and individuals is essential to enhance the connectivity to the community.

Employment services develop skills for placement in vocational programs and ultimately into competitive employment by focusing on work traits and training.  Transitional training and employment services offer experience in a real work environment that is integrated and supervised. Volunteer opportunities are valuable; however, Our Own Home believes that each person served should have the opportunity to gain paid employment in the industry or activity of their choosing. Our Own Home works to support the individuals through Discovery principles which assist in identifying an individual’s strengths and ultimate value to an employer.

Include Me Consulting – Include Me is a new model for promoting inclusive education for Pennsylvania’s students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  As consultants for the Arc of Pennsylvania and Include Me, we all believe that individuals with a disability deserve equal educational and competitive employment rights. Our mission is to build and strengthen the inclusive education capacity for all public-school students and to discover meaningful employment opportunities meeting Pennsylvania employee and employer needs. Include Me strives to ensure all impacted students have equal access to all aspects of life in the community throughout their lifespan.

Me Too training and consultation – An Everyday Life consists of people having pertinent information on sexuality, relationships and prevention of victimization. The desire for relationships exists for every person in each stage throughout the lifespan but unfortunately many people are not provided the education or tools to assist in making these relationships successful. The Me Too philosophy developed by Dr. Mary Jo Podgurski, places emphasis on each person with a disability is a person of worth and is entitled to the right to engage in empowered relationships. This philosophy supports the premise that people with disabilities should have access to appropriate education, information and resources that address sexuality and personal relationships.

All people have the right to pursue relationships without being presumed incompetent, exploited or abused. A person with a disability should have access to accurate sexual health and relationship information just like a person without a disability. People need to be empowered and be proactive with their own sexual health. Advocates, family members and providers need the tools to assist people with disabilities achieve their empowerment goals instead of having to react to the alarmingly high statistical rates of abuse and exploitation.
